Question by Jens: Can anybody tell how long bankruptcy take in California?
I am about to go for Chapter 7 in California (Bakersfield), I got the money together and I am ready to file (or rather my lawyer is when she gets the money this week). But I hear different timeframes here. Can anybody actually tell me how long it will take? One of the reasons is that my divorce will be put on hold since we are filling together, and I am trying to figure out when I can get married with my new girlfriend.

Every Bankruptcy Case has a life of it’s own. If you are involved in a no-asset Chapter 7, you can expect to receive a discharge in around 60-90 days. The key is to do everything you should do when you are supposed to do it. Attend the 341 meeting; complete the financial management class in a timely manner; complete your schedules. If you have everything ready for the Trustee to review, your case will move along smoothly.
